Introducing the 2011 UniverCities Team

Ready to help re-energize the Detroit region.

Welcome to the official UniverCities Connection blog! This summer, a team of six UniverCities student interns will help to renew metro Detroit’s inner-ring suburbs with cutting-edge energy conservation strategies. We’ll be tracking their progress towards sustainable cities and exploring other exciting efforts to re-energize the region—especially those initiatives where young people are taking the lead.

In the coming weeks, we’ll take a closer look at these young change-makers, the work they’re doing and the history of the UniverCities Connection program. Get your first glimpse in this photo from Tuesday’s orientation in historic downtown Ypsilanti. From left to right: Valerie Bieberich, program supervisor; Joel Batterman, Communications Fellow; Michael Stepniak, Southgate Energy Assistant; Jordan Garfinkle, Millennial Mayors Congress Energy Policy Intern; Jordan Eizenga, Millennial Mayors Congress Energy Data Intern;  Shane Freeman; and Stephanie Chueh, Climate Action Plan Intern.

Let the task of building a greener, greater metropolis begin!
